Job Title: Embedded Linux Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Embedded Linux Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our group, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining custom Linux distributions using Yocto or similar build systems.

  • Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and maintain custom Linux distributions using Yocto or similar build systems.
  2. Integrate and configure device drivers, bootloaders, and kernel modules for embedded platforms.
  3. Collaborate with hardware engineers to bring up new boards and debug low-level issues.
  4. Optimize system performance, boot time, and resource usage for embedded environments.
  5. Implement secure and reliable software update mechanisms for deployed devices.
  6. Document system architecture, build processes, and configuration details.
  7. Develop embedded software implementation in accordance with the chosen architecture and detailed design inputs.
  8. Work on tasks in accordance with approved project plans/work breakdown structure and the defined software development process.
  9. Contribute to software documentation such as architectures, design documentation, requirements, etc.
  10. Confirm requirements have been satisfied by developing unit and integration test plans, implementing automated tests, and performing manual testing.
  11. Participate constructively in reviews of software artefacts and software implementation.
  12. Build knowledge of development tools and processes used on assigned projects.
  13. Escalate issues when they become apparent with respect to software estimate to complete, technical risks, etc.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of Embedded Linux development, including kernel and user-space programming. You should have hands-on experience with Yocto Project, Buildroot, or similar embedded build systems. Additionally, proficiency in C/C++ and scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) is required. Familiarity with cross-compilation, toolchains, and debugging tools (e.g., JTAG, GDB) is also essential.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Strong experience with Embedded Linux development, including kernel and user-space programming.
  • Hands-on experience with Yocto Project, Buildroot, or similar embedded build systems.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python).
  • Familiarity with cross-compilation, toolchains, and debugging tools (e.g., JTAG, GDB).

Qualifications and Other Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering within one of the following disciplines:
    • Computer Science or Software Engineering
    • Electronics engineering
    • Mechatronics engineering
  • Citizenship of Australia is required.
