About the Role

Paperly is a leading Australian EdTech company that's revolutionizing the way schools streamline and automate manual processes and workflows. We're on an exciting trajectory, and we're looking for a talented Senior Software Engineer to join our team and help us make a global impact.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and deploy solutions and hands-on software development, working closely with other engineers and the product manager to deliver features and experiments to our customers across Australia.
  • Build and debug product features primarily in PHP/Laravel, with the possibility of working with other languages and environments.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and advocate for engineering needs to non-technical team members within the group.
  • Take initiative and ownership in achieving goals, improving processes, and solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-team collaboration to work on new ideas and improvements that help achieve our goals.
  • Assist with escalations from customer onboarding and customer support.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies and code reviews.
Requirements
  • Strong computer science and engineering fundamentals, including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns.
  • Highly competent in backend development, with a deep knowledge of Java and the JVM.
  • Ability to identify solution options, weighing tradeoffs and proposing a scalable software architecture that solves a given business problem.
  • Strong ability to communicate technical concepts and implications to different audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to break large projects down into smaller ones and deliver on them through others.
  • Passion for algorithms and performance.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Requirements for the Role
  • Qualification in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • National Police Certificate or Working with Children Check.
  • At least 5 years of commercial experience building software products.
