
Commercial Lines Underwriting Position

The Underwriting Specialist will be responsible for managing a book of business for profitability and growth, including advising other underwriters on technical systems, processes and procedures.
- Manage risk portfolios to ensure assigned books are tracking with established goals and key business metrics.
- Review and approve underwriting decisions for lower authority levels.
- Work collaboratively with support staff on accounts and agency relationships within assigned territories.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze exposures and determine acceptable risks for complex niche business.
- Handle or provide support for more complex state, risk, regulatory environments, and CAT exposure.
- Take a tactical approach to underwriting to achieve desired profitability and growth of books within established goals and business metrics.
- Exercise judgment and latitude based on industry experience to evaluate risk and make or recommend decisions as part of the overall department strategy.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in business administration or finance preferred.
- Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or other related industry designation desired.
- Six years of progressively responsible experience in commercial underwriting, including three years in property and casualty insurance.
- Broad knowledge of common terms, practices, processes and regulations in the P&C insurance industry.
