About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Geologist to join our team at the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. As a Geologist for Radioactive Waste Disposal, you will play a critical role in guiding a multi-decadal program to dispose of Australia's radioactive waste.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead research and development aspects of geological disposal concepts, including supporting the management of research contracts.
  • Contribute technical expertise to siting activities and disposal technique optioning, including setting scope and providing technical guidance.
  • Develop and implement geological disposal strategies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and prioritize research needs, and develop research plans to address these needs.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior staff, and contribute to the development of the team's technical capabilities.
Requirements
  • Postgraduate degree in Geology or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in geological disposal or a related field, with a strong understanding of geological disposal concepts and technologies.
  • Proven track record of leading research and development projects, with experience in managing research contracts and collaborating with internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including scientists, engineers, and policymakers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
