**Nuclear Literacy**

Radioactive waste exists in many locations around the country, including hospitals, research facilities and universities. While these locations maintain safety measures, they were not specifically designed for long-term waste management, making their continued use unsustainable. The construction and operation of a dedicated facility is needed to safeguard the future of Australia's nuclear medicine industry and nuclear research capabilities. ARWA’s culture of safety and security is international best practice and is complemented by our work to increase nuclear literacy in Australia through education and awareness.

**About the opportunity**

The General Manager, Program Delivery (GM) will be responsible for establishing and managing an integrated program of work to develop, implement and ultimately construct facilities to support the safe domestic disposal of radioactive waste. These facilities include the National Radioactive Waste Management Facility (NRWMF) and establishing Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) disposal pathway with associated demonstrator projects, will be the first of their kind in Australia.

The role requires an experienced and effective leader who can gain others’ trust and respect and build and guide a cohesive, highly skilled team. Effective collaboration and engagement with a wide range of stakeholders will be a core feature of the role, including working closely with project delivery partners, technical experts, and regulators.

**Position duties**:
In this role, you will:

- Be responsible for managing a program of work to deliver the National Radioactive Waste Management Facility (NRWMF) and establishing Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) disposal pathway including demonstrator projects.
- Ensure that the necessary resources and management infrastructure are in place to deliver the program of works, including establishment of a Program Management Office (PMO) and commercial function.
- Establish and deliver the detailed business case for the NRWMF to the Expenditure Review Committee (ERC) and the Public Works Committee (PWC).
- Develop the commercial delivery and procurement strategy and manage the preparation of all tender documentation and tender evaluation processes.
- Lead the delivery of any NRWMF, including managing on-site enabling and construction works and managing the work of external contractors, consultants and suppliers engaged to deliver the project.
- Ensure adherence to and management of Work Health and Safety requirements and outcomes.
- Ensure that all work is completed in compliance with regulatory requirements and Cultural Heritage Management Plans.
- Lead engagement with State officials and agencies to ensure ongoing communication and to facilitate effective delivery of the program.

**Capabilities**:
To be successful in the role, you will possess:

- A demonstrated ability to lead the delivery of a complex, major project, preferably, in a remote environment and regional Australia
- A sound understanding of Commonwealth Government procurement and project management processes
- A strong understanding of, and ability to operate effectively within, a highly complex regulatory system
- A track record as an effective leader with a demonstrated ability to direct and draw on the skills of a diverse team of technical experts and gain the trust and respect of those in your team
- The ability to represent the organisation with confidence and credibility and to negotiate, advocate and influence on its behalf within a politically and culturally sensitive environment
- A demonstrated ability to set and lead adherence to the highest safety and security standards

- Tertiary qualifications in an engineering or science discipline.
