Senior Effects Technical Director

Estimated Annual Salary: $120,000 - $150,000

We are seeking an experienced Senior Effects Technical Director to join our team at Industrial Light & Magic. As a key member of our visual effects team, you will be responsible for generating FX animation, procedural simulation, dynamic simulation, particle and fluid systems for feature film visual effects.

About the Role:
  • Design and create complex FX animations, simulations, and systems using industry-standard software such as Maya, Houdini, and 3DS Max.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, producers, and other departments to ensure high-quality shot delivery and meet project deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain production pipelines, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Mentor junior effects artists and provide guidance on best practices, techniques, and tools.
Requirements:
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional VFX experience and a college-level diploma in computer graphics, fine arts, design, or photography, or related field; OR at least 7 years of relevant professional VFX experience in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrates an excellent aesthetic eye and strong attention to detail.
  • Exhibits strong teamwork and interdisciplinary thinking, with excellent communication and follow-through skills.
  • Production pipeline experience and proficiency in industry-standard software.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, with a basic understanding of the physics of simulation.
  • Linux and scripting ability in Python, with advanced simulation experience and the ability to write expressions.
