Automation Controls Engineer

As an Automation Controls Engineer, you will utilize your expertise in industrial controls and embedded systems to modernize automation tools. Responsibilities include designing and maintaining safety-critical hardware for robots, ensuring it is robust, debuggable, and fast. You will determine the optimal blend of off-the-shelf and custom hardware solutions for complex electro-mechanical problems.

  • Collaborating with firmware and PCBA design engineers to balance custom and off-the-shelf embedded hardware
  • Designing electrical cabinets for automated pallet storage systems
  • Integrating turntables that rotate 3,000-pound pallets 360 degrees
  • Developing expandable I/O for embedded systems
Requirements
  • A passion for designing and integrating better automation and tooling
  • Experience selecting and integrating automation equipment and developing in-house embedded hardware
  • Proficiency in Beckhoff or Siemens controllers (including TwinSAFE and Siemens Safety)
  • Knowledge of microcontrollers and embedded systems
  • Electrical panel design using ePLAN or AutoCAD
  • Ability to debug and fix complex electro-mechanical systems with hands-on experience
  • Availability for occasional domestic travel to support integration and test activities
  • Embracing uncertainty and willing to learn from mistakes
