Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Specialist

The role of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Specialist is to support students, teachers, and school communities in areas of culture, spirituality, and student wellbeing and engagement.
This position focuses on promoting the intent of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle's Reconciliation Action Plan - Reflect, which aims to realise objectives such as supporting students, teachers, and school communities in areas of culture, spirituality, and student wellbeing and engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting students, teachers, and school communities in areas of culture, spirituality, and student wellbeing and engagement.
- Promoting the intent of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle's Reconciliation Action Plan - Reflect.
- Liaising with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and promoting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives within the school.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience working in educational settings with a focus on supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities.
- Established and ongoing links with the local and/or wider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
- Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member in an educational setting.
Qualifications:
- Being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification for this position.
- Current Senior First Aid Certificate (desirable).
- Current unrestricted Class C Driver's Licence (desirable).
- Current paid Working with Children Check number.
- Category A - Accreditation to Work.
