Job Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out general grounds and maintenance tasks, undertaking minor building works, coordinating tradesperson working on site, and ensuring the school premises are safe.

This is a full-time fixed-term position commencing and concluding at designated times. The applicant will be required to work 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out general grounds and maintenance tasks as required
  • Undertake minor building works and repairs
  • Coordinate tradesperson working on site
  • Aid in Occupational Health and Safety including inductions for contractors
  • Inspect the school premises to ensure they are safe
  • Maintain storage facilities clean, tidy and safe, including signage for OHS risks
  • Work through a schedule of regular tasks and maintenance audits
  • General setting up and packing away after events
  • General handyperson duties as directed
Selection Criteria:
  • Ability to perform a physically demanding role, with demonstrated gardening/handyperson aptitude
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage and maintain grounds and gardens within a school environment
  • Skills in the use of tools/technical equipment relevant to the position
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge, expertise and proficiency in minor repairs and maintenance to buildings within a school environment
  • Capacity to engage and liaise with contractors on site as required and manage minor projects being mindful of OHS practices
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a database system to track cyclic maintenance, repairs and contractors
  • Ability to work independently and flexibly to maintain the school premises
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Certificate III or higher in a relevant trade (e.g. horticulture, carpentry, plumbing)
  • Experience in a similar role, preferably in an educational setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision
