Role Overview:

The University of Tasmania is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Scientific Governance Advisor to join its Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). As a key member of the IBC, you will play a vital role in ensuring that all practices involving gene technology, biosecurity-regulated materials, and biologically-hazardous materials are conducted in accordance with legislation, Australian Standards, codes of practice, licensing requirements, and guidelines.

About the Role:

This is a part-time position, requiring attendance at four meetings per year, with additional work required outside of these meetings. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in scientific governance, with experience in reviewing and providing advice on applications related to gene technology, biosecurity-regulated materials, and biologically-hazardous materials.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide expert advice and guidance on matters related to scientific governance, including review and approval of applications for dealings involving gene technology, biosecurity-regulated materials, and biologically-hazardous materialsExercise independent judgement in relation to proposed dealings, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and standardsContribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to scientific governanceCollaborate with other members of the IBC to ensure effective oversight and management of the University's scientific activities

To be successful in this role, you will need:

A strong background in scientific governance, with experience in reviewing and providing advice on applications related to gene technology, biosecurity-regulated materials, and biologically-hazardous materialsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholdersStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide clear and concise advice and guidanceA high level of independence and autonomy, with the ability to exercise unfettered and independent judgement in relation to proposed dealings

Salary:$100,000 - $120,000 per annum, plus superannuation

Location:The University of Tasmania has campuses located throughout Tasmania, with the main campus situated in Hobart. This role is based at the Hobart campus, although remote work arrangements may be available.
