Job Opportunity:

We are seeking a professional and dedicated individual to fill the role of Official Visitor in custodial centres throughout New South Wales.

As an Official Visitor, you will play a vital role in monitoring the conditions and treatment of inmates, as well as resolving enquiries and complaints made by inmates. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a positive impact on people's lives.

Successful applicants will be community-based appointments made by the Minister for Corrections. They will be assigned to one custodial centre for up to four years to conduct half-day or full-day visits to the centre, either once a fortnight or once a month.

Applications are invited for appointments to centres in the Sydney region and across New South Wales. Vacancies exist at various centres, including Balund-a (Tabulam), Bolwara Transitional Centre, Broken Hill Correctional Centre, Cessnock Correctional Centre, Clarence Correctional Centre, Cooma Correctional Centre, Dillwynia Correctional Centre, Emu Plains Correctional Centre, Glen Inness Correctional Centre, Goulburn Correctional Complex, Hunter Correctional Centre, Junee Correctional Centre, Kirkconnell Correctional Centre, Lismore Court Cells, Long Bay Correctional Complex, Macquarie Correctional Centre, Metropolitan Remand & Reception Centre, Mid North Coast Correctional Centre, Newcastle Court Cells, Parramatta Transitional Centre, Port Macquarie Court Cells, Queanbeyan Court Cells, Silverwater Women's Correctional Centre, South Coast Correctional Centre, Surry Hills Court Cells, Tamworth Correctional Centre, Wellington Correctional Centre.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, women, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resolving enquiries and complaints made by inmates
  • Monitoring the conditions and treatment of inmates
  • Providing feedback and recommendations to the Minister for Corrections

Requirements:

  • Report writing skills
  • Computer skills
  • Access to the internet and email
  • Ability and willingness to travel to attend training or corporate activities when required
