Audit Risk Committee Opportunity

This is an invitation for suitably qualified individuals to join the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) of a local government organization. The Chairperson has vacated their membership, and the Committee seeks independent advisory members with recent and relevant experience.

About the Role

The ARIC is an independent committee that reviews and advises on Council operations in areas such as compliance, risk management, fraud control, financial management, governance, and delivery of strategic plans. The appointed members will provide assurance to the Council, assisting with oversight responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise the Council on compliance, risk management, fraud control, financial management, and governance.
  • Review and advise on the implementation of strategic plans, delivery programs, and associated strategies.
  • Support objective and independent judgement, challenging management practices and information.
  • Be available for training on audit, risk, and improvement committees as recommended by the Chairperson.
  • Meetings are held quarterly, with a term of four years for members; a typical meeting lasts up to 3 hours and requires pre-reading of business papers (approximately 5 hours).
Requirements
  • Demonstrate the ability to read and understand financial statements and ethical requirements of government.
  • Familiarity with risk management, performance management, HR management, internal and external auditing, financial reporting, accounting, management control frameworks, internal financial controls, governance, or business operations.
  • Capacity to form independent judgments and willingness to challenge management practices and information.
