Job Title: Assistant Director, Data Security Specialist
The role of the Assistant Director, Data Security Specialist is a critical position that involves preparing for and responding to cyber security incidents and threats. This role oversees the security posture of our data platforms, including data storage, transmission, processing, presentation, and representation in data governance layers.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare for and respond to cyber security incidents and threats by developing and implementing action plans, coordinating with relevant stakeholders, and ensuring timely recovery and forensic evidence.
- Oversee the security posture of our data platforms, including data storage, transmission, processing, presentation, and representation in data governance layers.
- Liaise with vendors and coordinate revisions to service agreements to ensure alignment with our Information Security Management System (ISMS) and compliance efforts.
- Engage with the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) and other relevant bodies to enhance our organisation's cyber resilience.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure open communication and collaboration on security matters.
- Monitor and evaluate emerging data and cybersecurity threats and trends, implementing appropriate measures to address them.
- Support our organisation's compliance with relevant regulations and standards, including ISO 27001, PSPF, and other applicable frameworks.
- Requirements:
- Demonstrated ability to build productive working relationships with stakeholders to ensure effective communication and collaboration across the organisation.
- Proven ability to provide leadership and direction to team members, defining and setting future strategies and guiding staff learning and development.
- Possess expertise and knowledge to manage, deliver, and implement prioritised requests to ensure the best outcomes for our organisation, aligning with quality and operational support standards.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership and accountability for assigned areas of responsibility, ensuring work is performed according to agreed standards.

- Proven experience in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the team, ensuring incidents and problems are managed in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge and understanding of data and cyber frameworks, legislation, policies, and procedures to guide the team effectively.
- Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex security issues and develop effective solutions.
- Exhibit a proactive approach to identifying and addressing security risks, ensuring our information assets are protected.
- Illustrate a commitment to continuous professional development and staying abreast of the latest cybersecurity trends and technologies.
