This position offers a fantastic opportunity to play a vital role within the Drug and Alcohol Team at our Immigration Detention Centre clinic.

Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for Drug & Alcohol plays a crucial role within IHMS' Drug and Alcohol team. The main responsibilities include:

  • Providing clinical leadership and facilitating ongoing enhancement and evaluation of triage and treatment planning for patients enrolled in the opioid substitution treatment program (OSTP)
  • Serving as a clinical resource and offering advanced support and communication at a local level regarding drug and alcohol matters
  • Coordinating and liaising with local and external stakeholders/service providers to ensure seamless continuity of care
  • Conducting specialist assessments and managing withdrawal symptoms, pharmacotherapies, intoxication, and overdose situations
  • Assisting local and centralized leadership teams to ensure the effective operation of drug and alcohol-related care and services

Qualifications

  • Current AHPRA Registration as a Div. 1 Registered Nurse
  • A minimum of 3 years of recent clinical experience working with individuals with substance use disorders in a drug and alcohol setting, including experience in opioid substitution treatment
  • Advanced clinical assessment skills and management of substance-related issues
  • Strong understanding of harm minimization principles
  • Current BLS or First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain it)
