The Clinical Nurse Lead (CNL) is a key member of the AVI Health and Community Services Victoria team, responsible for collaborating with the Nurse Manager to develop, support, and deliver nursing care. This role provides supervision, leadership, and coaching to nursing staff, ensuring quality clinical care is delivered while promoting social justice, trauma-informed care, and cultural humility.
Key Responsibilities- Clinical Expertise: Stay up-to-date on current research and best practices in treatment harm reduction prescribing, substance use disorder treatment, HIV, HCV, and other primary care and specialty care areas.
- Education and Training: Develop learning plans for nursing staff to ensure they work to a standard of best practice, and deliver certification courses in topics such as phlebotomy, harm reduction fundamentals, and wound care.
- Team Leadership: Provide person-centered, trauma-informed, and relational supervision and coaching to nursing staff, ensuring quality clinical care is delivered and addressing principles of social justice, trauma-informed care, and cultural humility.
- Clinical Practice: Provide direct participant care as a clinic nurse, regularly reviewing and supporting development and implementation of clinical protocols in collaboration with the leadership team and community partners.
- Graduation from an approved school of nursing with a baccalaureate in Nursing and current practicing registration as an RN or RPN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Minimum 3-5 years recent full scope nursing experience working with people with high levels of poly-substance use.
- Minimum one year of recent experience in healthcare education, adult education, or program development.
- Leadership experience within a BCNU or other union work site an asset.
- Previous experience working in supervised consumption/overdose prevention services or safer supply programs, including experience responding to medical emergencies such as overdose.
- Demonstrated skills, experience, and knowledge in the areas of primary care, substance use, harm reduction, HIV, HCV, sexual health, mental health, health promotion, and the impact of systemic poverty.
- Demonstrated commitment to the policy and practice of harm reduction, cultural safety, and trauma and violence-informed practices.
- Ability to establish and maintain respectful rapport with participants, observe and recognize subtle changes in participants, and communicate effectively, both verbally and written.
- Pay: per BCNU grid, Level 4 $49.20/hour to $63.47/hour
- Hours and Schedule: 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Sunday, 9:30am – 5:30pm
- Term: This position is ongoing, subject to funding
- Location: AVI SAFER Clinics, Victoria office and in the community as needed
- Union: AVI is a union environment under the Collective Agreement: HEABC & Nurses' Bargaining Association and this role is an Included Position.
