Medical Leadership Opportunity

The role of Chief Medical Officer provides high-level clinical and strategic leadership, management, and clinical governance within Miwatj Health. The position oversees the medical workforce, patient and cultural safety, quality improvement, and clinical governance service delivery planning and education.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide culturally safe medical and clinical leadership that oversees and contributes to improving clinical governance, performance, service integration, and teamwork.
  2. Maintain a commitment of 10-20% clinical work per month.
  3. Contribute as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and contribute strongly to enterprise leadership at the executive level.
  4. Develop relevant policies, processes, and procedures to mitigate risk.
  5. Oversight and advisory support for adverse incident management.
  6. Oversight and understanding of the research strategy.
  7. Leadership and successful implementation of Miwatj Health's Clinical Governance framework.
  8. Ensure adequate medical coverage across the region.
  9. Financial management and review and reporting of grants and associated performance.
  10. Lead a revenue strategy designed to maximise outcomes.
  11. Develop strategies to achieve NT Aboriginal Health KPI and National KPI targets.
  12. Lead and support clinical functions in times of emergency or coordinated responses.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  1. Eligibility for full registration with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner without restriction.
  2. A commitment to and demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal Community Control.
  3. Detailed understanding of population health status of Yolngu in East Arnhem Land.
  4. Significant experience in direct provision of primary health care in a remote context.
  5. Demonstrated success in an executive leadership role with strategic thinking and goal attainment.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of implementing effective clinical governance and continuous quality improvement processes.
  7. Excellent communication skills, particularly cross-cultural communication.
