**Job Summary:**

Counsellors at the University play a vital role in enhancing student wellbeing and retention. They provide individual and group counselling services, ensuring students receive the support they need to succeed academically and personally.

The Counsellor will work closely with students to address their challenges and foster positive outcomes. This involves utilising brief intervention approaches that leverage students' strengths and employ a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach.

In addition to providing short-term counselling, mental health interventions, and crisis management, this role contributes to the development of preventative programs and training initiatives. The Counsellor will also be part of a team responsible for coordinating critical incident support, wellbeing services, and welfare information across internal and external services.

This position requires a strong understanding of complex legislative frameworks and policy guidelines to effectively assist students. The successful applicant will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling them to build strong relationships with students, staff, and external partners.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing individual and group counselling services to students;
  • Developing and implementing preventative programs to promote student wellbeing;
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external partners to deliver critical incident support and wellbeing services;
  • Maintaining accurate records and reporting on student progress and service delivery;
  • Engaging in ongoing professional development to enhance knowledge and skills.
