Senior Work Health and Safety Specialist

We are seeking an experienced professional to deliver and support our Work Health and Safety system. This role supports all aspects of safety, including system development and implementation, policy review, audits, investigation, reporting and more.
Key Responsibilities Include:- Provide WHS expertise, guidance, support and education to staff
- Assist with the development, implementation and continuous improvement of our WHS system
- Conduct and coordinate regular WHS audits across Council, including internal and external audits as required
- Identify and facilitate strategies to improve staff safety and mitigate claims
- Develop and implement policies, procedures and systems in partnership with key stakeholders
- Support the recording and reporting process for workplace incidents and promote a proactive approach to incident investigation and hazard resolution
- Provide WHS statistics and reports as required
- Manage workplace health surveillance, including vaccinations and immunisations as required
- Administer rehabilitation programs for injured workers, including return-to-work initiatives in accordance with relevant legislation
- Support emergency preparedness and response programs, such as fire drills and evacuation
- Coordinate and facilitate WHS education, induction and training to ensure compliance with legislative requirements
- Develop and continuously improve SWMS and SWPs in consultation with stakeholders
- Administer the WHS Committee and coordinate consultative arrangements for WHS
- Lead investigations into serious incidents and assist in undertaking and reviewing incident investigations
- Tertiary qualifications in Work Health & Safety, coupled with contemporary experience in a senior WHS role
- Return to Work Coordinator accreditation
- Expert knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply WHS legislation and regulations
- Able to work cooperatively and consult across all levels of management and staff
- Experience conducting complex WHS investigations and audits
- Deliver on-the-job WHS induction, education and awareness training
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
- High level written, verbal and interpersonal skills, and ability to positively influence outcomes
