- Clinical Practice: Ensure that clinical practice and delivery of care are consistent with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Standards for Practice.
- Patient Care: Provide physical, emotional, and environmental assistance to patients, as well as counseling and education to support their needs.
- Leadership and Coordination: Prioritize workload based on patient needs, acuity, and optimal time for intervention, and provide leadership and coordination of work for less experienced staff.
- Supervision and Mentorship: Provide supervision and mentorship to students and less experienced staff in their ability to provide safe and effective care.
- Qualifications: Must hold dual certification in nursing and midwifery.
- Skills and Knowledge: Current and up-to-date midwifery skills and knowledge, including evidence of training in FSEP, PROMPT, PPH, and Neo-Resus.
- Teamwork: Ability to contribute and practice collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
