About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Network and Infrastructure Administrator to join our esteemed council in the north eastern suburbs for a fixed-term 12-month contract.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering exceptional customer service while providing support and advice on the Council's ICT Network and Security environments. This role involves diagnosing and repairing hardware and technical software issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate records for all network and technology assets, including leases and licenses.
  • Identify and report potential risks related to network and infrastructure tasks.
  • Plan and coordinate backup procedures with periodic integrity testing.
  • Keep technical documentation current for all specifications, processes, and procedures.
  • Resolve complex issues across the Council's network, server, and device technologies.
  • Provide 2nd level support and training to the Service Desk to enhance their technical abilities.
  • Automate infrastructure and network services, including backups, updates, and patching.
  • Offer ICT support and advice to customers.
  • Install and support Windows servers, VMWare, MS365, MS SQL Server, SANs, Active Directory, and network security solutions.
  • Maintain hardware inventory and documentation.
  • Monitor and ensure optimal performance of the Council's technical systems and network.

Technical Knowledge - Security Support:

  • Implement and monitor network security strategies and procedures.
  • Protect systems from unauthorized access, modification, and destruction.
  • Scan and assess network vulnerabilities.
  • Develop and implement disaster recovery plans.
  • Stay updated on security and technology trends, vulnerabilities, and breaches; recommend upgrades and security standards.
  • Configure and support security tools such as firewalls, filtering, and anti-virus/EDR software.
  • Report potential risks related to security and network duties.

About You

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft environments, including Active Directory & Microsoft Exchange.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Server and other operating systems.
  • Strong understanding of LAN/WAN environments and remote access solutions.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts: VLAN, VPN, trunk, routing, and TCP/IP.
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving server hardware or software faults.
  • Experience with SOE image development, deployment, and management for PCs and servers.
  • Application and patch management in medium to large enterprises.
  • Supporting cloud-based 'X as a Service' platforms (e.g., Office365, Financials, Assets, Payroll, CRM).
  • Configuring routers, modems, and wireless access points.
  • Planning and performing server software updates and upgrades.
  • Supporting medium to large-scale business systems.
  • VMware technology, including managing ESX hosts and hardware, and maintaining virtual environments and servers.
  • Network security, firewalls, and routers.
  • Enterprise storage administration.
  • Voice Over IP technology.
  • Up-to-date with emerging security and technology trends, vulnerabilities, and breaches.
