Bushfire Mitigation Officer

This is a permanent full-time opportunity with the local government's Parks Services Team.

You will lead your team to deliver high-quality bushfire mitigation maintenance services to the community, ensuring a proactive and cost-effective approach.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Supervise internal work teams and external contractors to achieve performance targets and support ongoing improvement through employee reviews.
  • Develop and implement bushfire mitigation work programs and treatment schedules, applying knowledge of mechanical, chemical and hazard reduction burning practices.
  • Provide expert advice on bushfire mitigation and communicate effectively across all levels of the organisation and the community it serves.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A degree in Conservation or Environmental Science and Management.
  • A current valid driver's license.
  • Extensive knowledge of bushfire mitigation practices, including mechanical, chemical and hazard reduction burning.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of plant and machinery safety procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Work Health Safety (WHS) policies and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and public relation skills.
  • Significant experience in managing and leading staff, volunteers, contractors and resources to deliver fire mitigation and performance outcomes.
  • Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) Volunteer Fire fighting training courses inclusive of Bushfire Fundamentals, Bushfire Safety Awareness, Firefighting Skills.
