Senior Registrar - Melanoma and Surgical Oncology

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Registrar in Melanoma and Surgical Oncology. Westmead Hospital is a key facility of one of Australia's largest major health and medical research precincts, providing district level health services to Western Sydney Local Health District.

The hospital provides approximately 638 acute overnight beds and 30 day only beds, with a range of medical services including cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, kidney and pancreas transplantation, cancer care, obstetrics and gynaecology, neonatal intensive care, trauma, bone marrow transplantation, critical care, aged care and rehabilitation.

As a Senior Registrar in this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing surgical services, including inpatient and outpatient care of surgical oncology unit patients
  • Undergraduate/postgraduate teaching and research
  • Involvement in MDT meetings for sarcoma, non-melanoma skin cancer, melanoma and thyroid cancer
  • Participation in the roster for on-call for the Acute Surgical Unit
  • Involvement in audit meetings for the Department and General Surgery
  • Responsibility for the maintenance of quality of all aspects of service delivery and the efficient use of resources within Western Sydney Local Health District

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong background in general surgery/head and neck surgery/surgical oncology
  • Familiarity with the natural history and biological behaviour of melanoma, non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), thyroid cancer, sarcoma and malignancy of the head and neck
  • High level interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence based best practice
  • Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department
