Weighbridge Operator

Katherine Town Council is a municipal council serving the Katherine community in the Northern Territory. Our organization provides essential services, including rates, roads, infrastructure, animal control, waste management, and more.

Located in the heart of the Big Rivers region, Katherine is a significant regional centre in Northern Australia. Our council connects Perth to Darwin from the west and Adelaide to Darwin through the north/south highway and rail corridor.

We are seeking a skilled Weighbridge Operator to join our team. As a Weighbridge Operator, you will be responsible for the efficient and accurate operation of our weighbridge system, ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety requirements.

• Operate the weighbridge system, ensuring accurate and efficient weighing of commercial vehicles.
• Sign up new clients, ensuring completion of new account application forms.
• Receive and balance cash payments for commercial waste and sale of used goods.
• Provide excellent customer service, communicating with clients in a friendly and helpful manner.
• Produce weekly reports for the Corporate & Community Development Department.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the office, including cleaning of the toilet, floor, and windows.
• Inspect vehicle/trailer loads, paying attention to commercial and industrial waste, recyclable materials, and other non-licensed wastes.
• Communicate with the landfill operator by radio as required.
• Document the disposal of asbestos and police sensitive materials.
• Advise clients of site safety rules and issue visitor safety cards as needed.
• Perform other duties as reasonably associated with or incidental to the above responsibilities.

• Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements.
• Assist in the implementation of the Katherine Town Council's Local Counter Disaster Sub-Plan in the event of a disaster.
• Provide excellent customer service, responding to community needs and fostering sustainable relationships.
• Work in accordance with Council's Vision and Mission statement.
• Perform and deliver results that align with the organisation's strategic direction.

• Completion of Year 10 and/or an appropriate labour market program or similar work/skills.
• Current NT Drivers Licence.
• Relevant Certificate qualifications.
• Sound written and verbal communication skills.
• Sound keyboard and computer skills.
• Experience in Local Government.

• Flexibility with a 7-day roster and above award penalty rates.
