Lead Modeller - Senior Artist

Salary:

£70,000 - £90,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Lead Modeller to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of artists on high-end visual effects projects, ensuring that all models meet the required standards of accuracy and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead a team of artists on a show, providing guidance and support to ensure successful project delivery.
  2. Have a good understanding of key assets on a show, identifying potential creative and technical challenges.
  3. Manage and assign tasks to team members, ensuring efficient workflow and timely completion of tasks.
  4. Collaborate with HODs and Supervisors on bid proposals, contributing to the development of compelling pitches.
  5. Produce high-quality models from hero to smaller assets, as required.
  6. Establish and document workflow templates, approaches, and methods, sharing knowledge with the team.
  7. Ensure department tools are available and properly set up for each show, maintaining a smooth working environment.
  8. Serve as the primary point of contact for production and supervisors, addressing creative challenges, delays, and other issues promptly.
  9. Maintain positive relationships with all departments, resolving any conflicts or issues promptly.
  10. Provide training and knowledge-sharing opportunities for junior team members, promoting their growth and development.
  11. Offer regular feedback to artists, ensuring quality control and excellence in work produced by the team.
  12. Attend dailies, presenting team work and guiding artists on presentation techniques.
  13. Advise HODs on advances made on projects, facilitating integration with other shows.
  14. Report specific show issues affecting modelling to HODs and DMs, e.g., crewing issues, conflict resolution.
  15. Set a high standard of professionalism within the team, demonstrating calmness, integrity, and positivity.
Essential Skills:
  1. Relevant working experience of 8 years or above in high-end VFX projects in a global studio.
  2. A strong working knowledge of Maya.
  3. Creative, resourceful, and spatially aware.
  4. Very strong polygonal subdivision modelling skills.
  5. Efficient in UV layout and texture requirements.
  6. Able to interpret and follow reference material to create accurate models.
  7. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  8. Able to organise own workflow meticulously.
  9. Ability to work well within a team.
Desirable Skills:
  1. Ability to script in Python.
  2. Cross-department skills, e.g., Texture, Lighting.
