Deputy Director of Research

The position of Deputy Director of Research is a key role in our institution, responsible for implementing the Research Directorate Operational Plan and participating in planning to ensure that this plan fulfils the requirements for accreditation.

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to manage the Research Governance Unit and establish excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The successful applicant will have a tertiary qualification in a medical, biomedical or life sciences field and extensive experience in managing administrative units, particularly in a research institution.

The Research Directorate oversees research activity across the hospital, including the promotion and facilitation of research, development of research opportunities and educational services. The Deputy Director will work closely with the Research Director to achieve the goals of the Research Directorate Operational Plan and contribute to the development of policy and guidelines within the institution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participating in the planning and implementation of the annual Research Directorate Operational Plan.
  • Ensuring the Research Directorate meets the relevant targets set in the Strategic Plan.
  • Developing, monitoring and managing the Research Governance Unit and budget.
  • Working with the Research Director to identify new revenue streams.
  • Providing advice on matters of ethical, legal and insurance requirements, and the requirements of research-related committees.

The Deputy Director will be responsible for managing the secretariat support of the Human Research Ethics Committee, Animal Ethics Committee and Institutional Biosafety Committee, ensuring that these committees are constituted and operate in accordance with relevant legislation and other guidelines and Codes.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in a medical, biomedical or life sciences field.
  • Extensive experience in managing administrative units, particularly in a research institution.
  • High-level conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a large and diverse organisation.
  • Strong understanding of Australian law and standards relating to research activity.
