Job Opportunity:

We provide support to aspiring Maternal and Child Health Nurses through clinical placements that align with full-time and part-time university enrolments.

Our extensive network of 21 Maternal and Child Health centres across the Geelong region and The Bellarine ensures students have access to preceptors who can guide them throughout their studies.

Placement Objectives:

This placement is designed for students pursuing a qualification in Maternal and Child Health Nursing. The primary goal of this placement is to solidify knowledge gained from theoretical studies, observe, and then apply skills required to practice as a Maternal and Child Health Nurse upon graduation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Verify the location and time of placement and make necessary travel arrangements to ensure punctuality.
  • Observe maternal and child health consultations initially and conduct clinical assessments under supervision as soon as possible.
  • Listen to feedback from preceptors and ask questions if unsure.
  • Identify any objectives that are not being met and seek assistance from preceptors or members of the Community Child Health leadership team or University staff.

Qualifications and Skills:

Required qualifications include registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife, as well as a current working with children check.

Essential requirements include:

  • Minimum 3 years combined experience in Nursing and Midwifery.
  • Understanding of responsibilities for own learning and completion of objectives of clinical placement.
  • Ability to travel to various locations within the municipality and arrive punctually.
