Modern Manufacturing Workshop Leader

This role presents a unique opportunity to leverage your technical expertise and leadership skills in a cutting-edge research environment. As a Senior Technical Officer, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Modern Manufacturing Workshop, ensuring efficient and innovative delivery of bespoke manufacturing solutions.

About the Role

As a leader in this workshop, you will work closely with researchers, academics, students, and industry partners to enable high-precision fabrication, rapid prototyping, and custom solutions that bring big ideas to life. Your responsibilities will include scheduling and coordinating workshop operations, inductions, and equipment training, as well as liaising with stakeholders to scope and prioritise jobs.

You will also be responsible for operating and programming CNC and multi-axis lathes, as well as manual equipment, reviewing and producing CAD technical drawings to support prototyping and research, and ensuring compliance with WHS standards and safe workshop practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Scheduling and coordinating workshop operations, inductions, and equipment training
  • Liaising with researchers, academics, and industry partners to scope and prioritise jobs
  • Operating and programming CNC and multi-axis lathes, as well as manual equipment
  • Reviewing and producing CAD technical drawings to support prototyping and research
  • Ensuring compliance with WHS standards and safe workshop practices
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need a degree or trade qualification with at least four years subsequent relevant experience in Engineering, or extensive experience and management expertise in technical fields, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.

Specialist skills and experience in delivery of high-quality design and manufacturing across all disciplines in Engineering technical services in the higher education or a complex organisation within a relevant field are highly regarded. Advanced knowledge of CNC machining, including programming and operation, is essential.
