Role Overview

The Environmental Monitoring Officer role is an exceptional opportunity to make a positive impact on the environment and community of the Central Coast. As part of the Central Coast Council team, you will be responsible for managing environmental monitoring programs, ensuring data accuracy, and providing quality customer service.

About the Role

This temporary term contract position offers a unique chance to work in a leading role, ensuring accurate reporting of environmental data. You will be responsible for coordinating technical water audits, undertaking recreational water quality monitoring, and working with the community to create value.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate highly technical water audits
  • Undertake recreational water quality monitoring and reporting (Beachwatch)
  • Work/Life Balance with flexible/hybrid working arrangements available
  • Temporary term contract for up to 12 months
Requirements
  • a degree qualification in Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science or a related field or demonstrated solid contemporary experience in a similar role together with ongoing professional development
  • current Class C Drivers Licence
  • extensive experience in Coastal, Estuarine or Catchment Management with specific focus on recreational and ecological water quality investigations (microbial contamination, microbial source tracking, water and sediment chemistry, pollutant load evaluation, diffuse/point source and event-based assessment) leading to catchment prioritisation, planning and remedial action
  • demonstrated practical experience in water and sediment sampling including but not limited to equipment maintenance and calibration, aseptic sampling techniques, sample processing, data entry and collation, data QA/QC, statistical data analysis and reporting
  • strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex information into an accessible form for community and other stakeholders
  • exceptional project management skills to manage multiple complex technical projects with a high degree of technical competency and limited supervision
  • proven ability to assess and interpret information to formulate recommendations and provide specialist advice to enable the organisation to achieve quality outcomes
  • demonstrated ability to build strong, credible relationships and influence, persuade or negotiate outcomes that add value to the organisation.
What We Offer
  • The salary range for this position is $85,850.60 - $103,028.64 per annum, plus 11.5% superannuation
  • We offer a temporary term contract for up to 12 months
  • A leaseback vehicle is provided for official duties and private use

Location
