Job Title

As a Mechanical Leading Hand, you will oversee and guide the maintenance team to manage daily tasks, ensuring safe and efficient plant operation while adhering to safety, quality, environmental, and financial standards.

Responsibilities
  1. Team Leadership: Oversee and guide the team in managing daily maintenance tasks, including routine and defect maintenance.
  2. Safety Management: Identify and address issues and risks to maintain a safe working environment.
  3. Technical Guidance and Support: Guide and mentor apprentices and other team members, while also collaborating with and monitoring contractor workers.
  4. General Maintenance Activities: Carry out trade-related duties such as preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, upgrades, and installations to maximise the reliability and availability of the Power Station.
  5. Team Development: Mentor and motivate team members, enhancing their performance and professional development.
  6. Coordination and Communication: Collaborate with teams and contractors to plan maintenance activities in alignment with business needs.
  7. Process Improvements: Assess current maintenance practices and propose strategies to boost efficiency and drive better performance.
Requirements
  • A qualified Mechanical Fitter or Boilermaker with an in-depth knowledge of modern power stations or other heavy industry.
  • Leadership qualifications to a Certificate level and demonstrated experience in leading a team.
  • Ability to lead by example, ensuring consistent actions that reflect positive work culture values.
  • Committed to developing and mentoring others towards success.
  • Proactive in identifying and addressing performance or behavioural issues within the team.
  • Effective communication skills to build relationships across all levels.
  • Strong understanding of safety practices, maintenance procedures, and environmental regulations.
