Position Overview

The Systems Immunology group, under the leadership of Dr. Seyhan Yazar, is part of Garvan's Precision Immunology Program. This group is at the forefront of genomics and data analysis, merging computational expertise with biological insights. Our focus is on developing and applying computational techniques to deepen our understanding of autoimmune and allergic diseases, ultimately improving patient care through collaborative research.

Key Responsibilities

The Research Officer – Level 1 will undertake original research with minimal supervision and contribute to various areas, including:

  • Efficiently completing research projects with results published in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Collaborating on team and institute-wide research initiatives.
  • Presenting research findings at national and international conferences.
  • Mentoring and co-supervising students and junior staff.
  • Assisting in the preparation of research grant proposals.

Candidate Profile

Successful candidates will possess:

  • A PhD in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Strong statistical and programming skills.
  • A solid understanding of biology, with immunology knowledge being advantageous.
  • Experience in analyzing and interpreting genomic data, including sequencing and RNA-seq.
  • A record of publications relevant to their experience.
  • Proficiency in Unix and high-performance computing environments.
  • Expertise in at least one scripting language (e.g., R, Python).
  • Familiarity with version control systems and software containers.
  • Experience with workflow management systems, databases, and cloud computing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
