About the Role

The Senior Employee Relations Advisor will provide high-level support, coaching, and advice to line managers and the HR team while driving employee relations initiatives, handling workplace investigations, and ensuring fair and consistent application of Austin Health's policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide accurate and timely advice to Senior Management and Executive on ER matters, applying a strategic, compliant, and operational focus
  • Develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, particularly Executive and senior leaders to promote positive employee relations across the organisation
  • Liaise with Unions, government, and other stakeholders
  • Provide end-to-end case management of complex issues, conduct and manage complex workplace investigations, and resolve employee grievances
  • Act as an escalation point for junior members of the ER team
  • Contribute to the development of employee relations strategy
  • Represent Austin Health at tribunals and commissions, brief external counsel, and manage litigation
About You

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

  • Advanced knowledge of relevant employment legislation and a proven ability to interpret and apply industrial instruments, policies, and procedures in a broad range of situations
  • Significant experience in an HR/ER advisory role, with a proven ability to develop effective strategies, solutions, and interventions to address complex employee relations matters
  • Confidence and ability to assist junior ER advisors, contribute to their development, and support growth and maturing of the ER team
  • Ability to influence and negotiate, particularly with Senior leadership and Executive
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, including the ability to consult effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate effectively and influence outcomes in a highly unionised workforce
  • Prior experience in Public Health or other complex regulatory setting will be highly regarded
