Therapeutic Specialist Role Overview

This position is situated within our Therapeutic Residential Care Program, which provides intensive and time-limited care for vulnerable children and families. Our goal is to create positive, safe, and healing relationships and experiences informed by a sound understanding of trauma, attachment, and developmental needs.

The Therapeutic Specialist will provide therapeutic leadership and trauma-informed interventions based on best practice expertise and contemporary research that delivers positive outcomes for children and families. They will be a member of the Clinical Program and report to the Principal Practitioner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To lead therapeutic initiatives that achieve positive outcomes for vulnerable children and families.
  • To work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment plans that meet the unique needs of each child.
  • To maintain accurate records of client progress and program evaluation.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values, including awareness of current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people, and their families.
  • Appropriate tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline.
  • Current registration as a psychologist with the relevant professional body and a higher degree in psychology at master's level is preferred.
  • Post Graduate training in relevant child, adolescent, and family clinical practice, family therapy, and systemic thinking is strongly preferred.
