Job Title:

Utility System Specialist Trainee

About the Role:

This entry-level position provides support for the repair, installation, and maintenance of water, wastewater, and reclaimed water utility system lines and lift stations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assists in repairing, installing, and maintaining water, wastewater, and reclaimed water utility system lines and lift stations.
  • Maintains a safe working environment by adhering to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Works independently and as part of a team to achieve departmental goals.
  • Develops skills and knowledge through on-the-job training and education programs.
Requirements:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Six months of experience in plumbing, construction, or mechanical repair and/or maintenance of industrial mechanical equipment is required.
  • Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
  • A valid Florida driver's license and physical ability to wear personal protective equipment are required.
  • The ability to obtain within six months a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)/Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) Basic Flagger certification and within eighteen months a Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Water Distribution System Operator Level 3 license or Wastewater Collection Technician Level 3 certification is required.
Physical Demands:
  1. Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing 50 pounds or more is required.
  2. Standing, walking, sitting, and driving for 5-8 hours each in an eight-hour day is required.
  3. Fine manipulation, operating foot controls, pulling, pushing, and simple grasping repetitive tasks is required.
  4. Balancing, bending, climbing, crawling, digging, jumping, kneeling, reaching, running, smelling, and stooping is required.
  5. Good color perception, distant and near vision, hearing, speech, and use of both eyes is required.
Working Conditions:
  1. Work at heights, below ground level, in cold, damp, hot, humid, dusty, noisy, or hazardous environments, and with chemicals, electricity, fumes, and other hazards is required.
  2. Work alone or with others, inside or outside, on ladders or scaffolding, and on uneven surfaces is required.
