Job Overview

As a Training Area Range (TAR) Operator, you will be based at Robertson Barracks, Northern Territory, and play a crucial role in ensuring the readiness and functionality of Defence Training Areas.

About Our Role

This position offers a unique opportunity to work on live fire targets with Defence Units, while maintaining the overall operational efficiency of TAR.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate contractor tasks for TAR, including land care, cleaning, waste management, and estate upkeep.
  • Plan, deploy, test, and recover live fire targets with Defence Units.
  • Manage TAR gates/flags per approved firing schedules.
  • Build and repair targets using Defence supplies.
  • Conduct non-technical inspections and support contractor technical checks.
  • Maintain TAR readiness, including weed control and facility upkeep.
  • Operate DART, MTR, SMR, and new target systems.
  • Manage inventory, stock control, and storage.
Requirements
  • Experience in planning, placing, testing, and recovering range live fire target equipment.
  • Ability to operate and maintain various target systems, such as DART, MTR, and SMR.
  • Experience in inventory control, stock management, and storage maintenance.
  • Range Officer Accreditation or relevant safety training would be highly regarded.
Eligibility

You must be an Australian Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance.
