We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team in developing innovative eDNA methods for environmental monitoring. Our multidisciplinary team is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of eDNA science and exploring its applications in biodiversity conservation.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and testing novel eDNA sampling methods, including field and laboratory experiments. You will also develop protocols for sample extraction, DNA quantification, and next-generation sequencing analysis. Your expertise in trace DNA contamination measures, molecular techniques, and high-throughput sequencing will be invaluable in this role.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in eDNA research, with experience in conducting or supporting field-based sample collection, especially involving water sampling, filtration, or other forms of environmental sample capture. Familiarity with eDNA applications in biodiversity monitoring or population-level analyses is also essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and experimentally test eDNA sampling methods that consider variables such as volume, filtration, and replication strategies.
  • Develop field sampling and extraction protocols that minimize between-sample variability and optimize the reliability of downstream quantification estimates from eDNA data.
  • Establish sampling, laboratory, or bioinformatic methods that enrich the insights that can be drawn from eDNA metabarcoding data.

Requirements

  • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as eDNA, molecular ecology or other trace DNA-based genetics.
  • Experience in sampling, extracting and handling trace-level DNA, including sound knowledge and experience in trace DNA contamination measures.
  • Strong hands-on experience in molecular techniques, including DNA extraction, qPCR, and library preparation for high-throughput sequencing.
  • Experience working with next-generation sequencing output, especially in the context of environmental or degraded DNA.
