Job Description

Job Title: Community Liaison Officer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and culturally sensitive Community Liaison Officer to join our team at the Queensland Police Service. As a Community Liaison Officer, you will play a critical role in building trust and understanding between the police service and local communities, with a particular focus on First Nations communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with local First Nations communities and other diverse groups to promote cultural understanding and awareness.
  • Provide advice and guidance to police officers on cultural protocols and customs to ensure effective communication with community members.
  • Work with police members to identify opportunities to strengthen community engagement and develop crime prevention and early intervention strategies that are culturally appropriate.
  • Assist community members to access policing services and provide advice to police members on referral to other community services where necessary.
  • Engage with community groups to identify and build community-based and community-led programs and initiatives to improve community safety.
  • Link key stakeholders across police, community, and government agencies to support community-based and community-led programs and initiatives.

Requirements:

  • This is an identified position, and it is a genuine occupational requirement that an identified position be filled by a First Nations person as permitted by and arguable under Section 25, 104, and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act.
  • This position involves driving QPS vehicles, and the occupant of this position is required to hold a Queensland 'C' class driver's license or have the ability to acquire a driver's license.
  • This position requires wearing a Police Liaison Officer uniform and adherence to the QPS Code of Dress and Appearance.
  • This position requires working to a set roster and may also involve weekend work and shift work to attend local festivals and forums to meet the policing needs of the local area.
