The QUT Digital Media Research Centre is a global leader in digital humanities and social science research, focusing on communication, media, and the law. The Australian Internet Observatory is a new national research infrastructure initiative that will create an interconnected ecosystem of people, data, and tools to support innovative approaches to the collection and analysis of digital social data across various disciplines and sectors.

Job Description

  • We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer, Data to lead the design and development of the Australian Internet Observatory (AIO). This key role involves creative collaboration with research, operations, and technical staff across partner organisations to establish critical research infrastructure for the project.
  • The successful candidate will have proven experience in developing and maintaining data processing pipelines for data integration and transformation, collecting data from various sources, including browsers, mobile devices, and APIs.
  • This role requires strong analytical skills and the ability to perform root cause analysis, as well as demonstrated knowledge in applying empirical research methods and techniques to design, develop, and evaluate web/software solutions.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Education, training, or experience equivalent to postgraduate qualifications and relevant experience in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, or another relevant quantitative field.
  • Proven experience in software development, data analysis, or similar technical projects, preferably following Agile methodologies.
  • Demonstrated methodical approach to developing and documenting software, data, and data products, including using modern code management practices.

Salary

The estimated salary range for this position is $152,734 - $160,006 per annum, inclusive of 17% superannuation and leave loading.
