Job Overview

This role is designed for individuals who have a strong understanding of the challenges faced by people struggling with substance use. As a Peer Support Worker, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team working on statewide and integrated AOD programs. Your primary focus will be delivering person-centred care, which involves building supportive relationships and promoting recovery-oriented thinking and behaviour.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide warm support to individuals seeking assistance from others who share similar experiences.
  • Engage with clients during their recovery journey through targeted follow-up and assertive outreach.
  • Support clients throughout the intake and assessment processes and refer them to other services as needed.
  • Collaborate with staff across various programs to develop and implement a strength-based approach that encourages hope and welcomes diversity.
  • Undertake service promotion activities as required.
  • Apply a flexible and client-centred approach to help participants achieve their individual goals.
Requirements
  • Recovery experience from harmful substance use.
  • Experience in providing peer support services to people of all ages experiencing substance use and related psychosocial issues.
  • Ability to work independently as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Relevant qualifications in AOD and mental health or a related field.
