This is a role for a Counsellor with expertise in supporting students within an educational environment. The successful applicant will be working closely with a large team to deliver a responsive and effective service to enrolled students.

Job Description

The Student Counsellor will be responsible for assessing need, providing therapeutic interventions, and collaborating with academic staff to create a supportive University environment. This includes working with diverse student clients using various therapeutic models with a focus on short-term interventions.

The Division of Academic and Student Engagement partners with students, staff, and the broader community to deliver an exceptional student experience. At the heart of this are transformational opportunities in learning and teaching.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in providing therapeutic counselling, assessment, risk assessment, and crisis intervention.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the wide range and complex needs of students within a tertiary education setting.
  • Well-developed ability to establish rapport and form a therapeutic alliance with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team and liaise, negotiate, and resolve conflict in complex situations.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of professional practice expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence, and discovery.
