Metagenomics Specialist

This is an opportunity to lead the development of bioinformatics workflows for metagenomics and microbiome testing, translating cutting-edge technologies from research settings into robust clinical applications. As part of a collaborative team, you will work closely with experts in genomics and microbiology to advance public health microbiology.

Responsibilities:
  • Create comprehensive, automated workflows for metagenomics and microbiome testing, ensuring they meet laboratory needs and accreditation standards.
  • Develop and execute validation studies to optimize metagenomics and microbiome testing performance, analyzing and documenting results according to international specifications.
  • Contribute to translational research projects in microbiome and metagenomics fields, particularly as applied to public health.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to present findings and contribute to discussions.
Requirements:
  • A strong background in bioinformatics and genomic sequence data analysis, with experience in workflow languages and a keen interest in microbial genomics and public health.
  • Demonstrable experience with genome sequence data, bioinformatics tools, and large genome datasets, including proficiency in a workflow system such as Nextflow or Snakemake.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to work in a UNIX environment, with strong communication skills and team collaboration.
  • Masters or equivalent qualification in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related field, or verifiable experience with programming languages like Python or R.
