About the Role:
Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd (MACS) is a leading non-government education system in Australia, operating over 300 primary and secondary schools. As the owner-operator of this extensive network, MACS employs 16,000 staff and educates over 114,000 students, fostering a culture of academic excellence and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight of legal and professional standards, governance, and information management.
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring the effective implementation of Company Secretariat services and operating with a high level of autonomy.
- Offer expert legal and commercial advice to the Executive Director and leadership team, ensuring MACS operates within canonical and civil law, and its rights are adequately protected.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including government and regulatory bodies, to embed mature risk-based decision making in dynamic organisations.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as General Counsel in a large organisation, with a strong track record of collaborative and collegiate professional and executive leadership.
- Outstanding legal, commercial, governance, and advisory skills, with a deep understanding of relevant legislation.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in engaging with critical stakeholders, including government and regulatory bodies.
- Ability to embed mature risk-based decision making in dynamic organisations.
