The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Yard Leading Hand to join our team in the Dampier/Karratha region of Western Australia. As a Yard Leading Hand, you will be responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of our yard, ensuring compliance with our Zero Harm initiative and company policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine and arrange labour and vehicle requirements with the Operations Supervisor
  • Organise equipment to cover all orders and requests
  • Provide a communication focal point for customers and implement contingency actions in the event of an impediment to operations
  • Keep the Supervisor informed and be prepared to assume additional duties as required
  • Ensure equipment and procedures comply with company and customer standards
  • Maintain accurate records of information and work performed
  • Supervise the use of materials handling equipment
  • Assist with staff training in local procedures and equipment use
  • Develop and maintain a professional and motivated employee team
  • Develop the competence of individual employees through training and work experience
  • Investigate service failures or loss/damage of goods and develop remedial action
  • Keep equipment in a clean and working condition
  • Audit employee lead indicator safety practices
  • Ensure risks are identified, assessed, and controls applied for all tasks
  • Ensure employees, service providers, or contractors are trained and qualified
  • Ensure team members understand HSE requirements
  • Participate in monthly safety meetings and chair daily toolbox meetings
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping
  • Store materials to prevent damage and contamination
  • Develop fatigue management plans for transport operations
  • Cooperate with internal and external auditors
  • Participate in incident investigations
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience managing small teams in warehousing, distribution, or logistics
  • Dogman and Forklift License
  • Sound knowledge of warehousing and distribution best practice and management systems
  • Basic computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Understanding of Quality Management and Continuous Improvement Concepts
  • Working knowledge of company policies, procedures, and relevant legislation
  • Heavy forklift operating skills
  • Experience in transport operations, crane and lifting operations, and storage and inventory control/reporting
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with various people
  • Ability to work autonomously and adapt to a demanding environment
  • Ability to work well within a small team environment
  • Ability to obtain an MSIC
