About This Opportunity

The role of the Aboriginal Education Officer is pivotal in fostering the academic and personal growth of Indigenous students at St Pius X Catholic Primary School, Dubbo. As a dedicated professional, you will act as a liaison between Indigenous students, their families, the school, and the wider community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish strong relationships with First Nations families and welcome new families into the school community.
  • Support the development and implementation of Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs) for Indigenous students.
  • Promote and celebrate Aboriginal culture across the school.
  • Assist with literacy and numeracy support for Aboriginal students in class and small group/individual settings.
  • Encourage regular attendance, support transitions, and explore career pathways with students.
  • Provide pastoral care, encouragement, and guidance to Aboriginal students.
  • Collaborate with teachers and school leaders to ensure culturally inclusive learning experiences.
About You:
  • Confirm your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to the philosophy and values of Catholic Education, including social justice, equity, and reconciliation.
  • Demonstrate sound skills in literacy and numeracy to assist students.
  • Be able to work collaboratively with staff to support Indigenous students.
  • Have experience engaging families and community, including in challenging situations.
  • Hold knowledge of educational issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
  • Have strong connections with the local Aboriginal community.
  • Be committed to promoting and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture within the school.
