About the Role
The Department of Education, Western Australia, is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer to join our team. As a key member of our education team, the successful applicant will play a vital role in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for our First Nations students.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with teachers, students, and families to develop culturally relevant educational programs.
- Provide support and guidance to First Nations students, particularly those at risk, to encourage participation and achievement in the classroom.
- Conduct home visits to discuss the academic progress or social development of students and provide orientation to staff about the First Nations community.
- Work closely with the local First Nations community to facilitate their involvement in shaping school policies and programs.
Requirements
- Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students, teachers, parents, community members, and professional staff.
- Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact on a range of levels in a variety of settings and with different audiences.
- Able to contribute to a school-level team and provide multi-cultural direction in the development of the educational program.
- Ability to effectively assist teachers in implementing educational and behaviour management programs.
- Good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs to students.
- Ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.
