The Aboriginal School and Community Worker plays a vital role in supporting Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Wagga Wagga (CEDWW) to provide a welcoming and safe place for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and their children.
As an integral part of the school community, you will engage in opportunities that support the learning, pastoral and spiritual wellbeing of Aboriginal students, their families and community. Effective communication with Aboriginal families, school personnel and forming partnerships with local Aboriginal organisations and Elders is essential.
Key Responsibilities- Engage with Aboriginal students, parents and carers to build relationships and promote a sense of belonging within the school community.
- Support teachers and school staff to develop culturally responsive practices that cater to the diverse needs of Aboriginal students.
- Collaborate with local Aboriginal organisations and Elders to enhance cultural understanding and educational outcomes for Aboriginal students.
- Develop and implement programs that promote the spiritual, social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal students.
- Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be able to connect with Aboriginal Elders and local community organisations.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of the Australian education system and current issues affecting Aboriginal students.
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with all community members.
- Hold a valid NSW Drivers Licence and Working with Children Check.
