About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, multi-skilled Scientist specialised in Haematology, Biochemistry, Transfusion and Stat-Microbiology and highly motivated to become part of a passionate, vibrant and engaged team.

  • Performing all routine procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for Pathological diagnosis, including specimen dissection.
  • Assisting with stock control.
  • Compliance with records maintenance and recording of results in line with protocols.
  • Maintaining all equipment and operating equipment in line with protocols.
  • Maintaining current scientific knowledge.
  • Participation in both routine and audit related Quality Assurance activities.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required.
  • Participating in training staff.
  • Liaising with internal and/ or external stakeholders (referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary.
Requirements

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise and skills within the respective discipline.
  • S sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.
  • Perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision.
  • An outstanding commitment to quality and excellence.
  • A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures.
  • A positive attitude toward achieving outcomes and being a cohesive, contributing team member.
  • Strong time management, interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
