Senior Geologist roles are highly sought after in the mining industry due to their unique blend of technical expertise and leadership skills. As a Senior Resource Geologist, you will be responsible for leading a team of geologists and overseeing all aspects of mineral resource evaluation.
Key Responsibilities- Leads an expanding team of geologists, providing guidance on resource evaluation methodologies and ensuring quality control of all resource models.
- Audits clients' mineral resource (Kriging) models and generated Stratum models.
- Assists in auditing complex mine site databases composed of varied geological and geochemical data to evaluate critical issues.
- Collaborates with ML engineers and clients' mine planners and metallurgists to ensure optimisation of the models.
- Provides technical input to enhance sales teams' capabilities.
- Implements rigorous audit and quality control procedures for clients' data, new collection procedures, and resource models to ensure model accuracy and reliability.
- Ensures adherence to relevant mining regulations regarding resource reporting and disclosure.
- Prepares technical reports and presentations.
To excel as a Senior Resource Geologist, you should have:
- Tertiary qualification in Geology or Earth Science.
- Broad understanding of geological composition, structure, and geophysical attributes.
- Extensive experience in mineral resource evaluation (>20 years), working in both open pit and underground mining environments.
- Familiarity with geometallurgy and mineral resource estimation.
- Detailed knowledge of machine learning and data sciences applications in the mining industry.
- Proficiency in mineral source modelling software platforms and data analysis tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to convey complex concepts.
- Familiarity with mining regulations and reporting standards in Australia (JORC) and Canada (NI43-101).
- Leadership qualities to manage a growing team of geoscientists.
- An open motor vehicle driving licence.
- No criminal convictions that will restrict international travel.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.
