Sydney, New South Wales, Australia KPMG Full time

The role of operations and technology within in-house legal functions is increasingly important and seen as pivotal to their success and sustainability. KPMG's Legal Operations Transformation Services (LOTS) team assists top in-house legal functions in assessing their performance and maturity, redesigning their target operating model, selecting and implementing technologies, and creating and implementing their roadmap. In short, we help them modernise, right-size, and digitise their service offering for the future.

The current team is high-functioning, ambitious, and on a mission to redefine the art of the possible in the legal operations and technology space, bringing experience from top-tier law firms, technology start-ups, in-house legal teams, and Big 4 from Australia and abroad.

The successful candidate must share this passion for excellence, be comfortable in running multiple concurrent projects, and be part of a team with varied but complementary skillsets. A keen interest in legal technology, particularly the potential for AI-based technologies to revolutionise the legal industry, would be highly valued.

You have 4-8 years of relevant experience with a likely background in technology, management consulting, or operations advisory. Some experience working with or within the legal industry is an advantage.

Working with a close-knit team of lawyers, consultants, analysts, and technologists, you will get exposure to some of the largest, most sophisticated clients and will be presented with opportunities to work with KPMG's wide, cross-functional teams across the world.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Strong stakeholder engagement, teamwork, and project coordination capabilities.
  • Proven ability to elicit and document business and customer needs, translating these to clear requirements, with experience in implementation.
  • A strong understanding of the technology landscape available to in-house legal teams and experience in technology implementation.
  • Ownership of various projects and initiatives, ensuring these are delivered on time and on budget.
  • A curious mind and a collaborative approach to knowledge sharing.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong Microsoft 365 skills (particularly Excel and PowerPoint).

Desirable skills include:

  • A strong understanding of legal processes, particularly legal operations.
  • Ability to be data-driven and derive insights from data to make business decisions or recommendations.
  • Experience in developing automation solutions specific to the legal industry, particularly around contract lifecycle and workflow management.

You will also have the opportunity to work with our unified LOTS team globally, both on client engagements and thought leadership initiatives.
