Acton Park, Tasmania, Australia National Film & Sound Archive of Australia Full time

About the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia

The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia is Australia's audiovisual archive, collecting, preserving, and sharing audiovisual media that tell the national story. Our collection dates back to 1935, making it one of the world's oldest audiovisual collections. With around 125 million views of collection content each year, we are one of the country's most used cultural collections.

We are undergoing a period of significant change, with increased Government investment and a focus on digital transformation. This has led to the establishment of the NFSA as Australia's most dynamic and valued cultural organisation. We are rebuilding our curatorial workforce and developing the NFSA's capacity to digitise our collection at scale.

We continue to work on developing a stable, secure, and future-proof workforce across our four physical sites. We are also undergoing a program of business improvement for many of our corporate systems to improve efficiency and reduce manual handling.

We are an ambitious organisation, aiming to be an employer of choice within the Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAM) sector. We provide exciting and challenging work, as well as favourable employment conditions and unique development opportunities for our staff.

About the Team

The Communications team is part of the Marketing and Communications Branch, which includes marketing, design, communications, editorial, and digital content. The team is split across our Sydney and Canberra offices, with this role based in our office in Acton.

The Opportunity

The Communications Specialist plays a key role in attracting local audiences to our compelling on-site public programs in Canberra and reaching national audiences with stories about the collection, our work, and our ambitions.

The Communications Specialist will be an experienced publicist and communications professional, able to work independently and manage communications activity for our Canberra public programs. This role requires enthusiasm and strong storytelling abilities to pitch to a wide variety of consumer and industry media.

This position requires a self-starter, ready to take on any tasks, big or small, and willing to work across a variety of projects at a given time. The Communications Specialist will be a team player with an interest in Australian audiovisual culture who understands the benefit of collaborative digital and social marketing and communications campaigns.
