Superintendent - Rehabilitation and Closure (QLD or NSW) - Environmental Expert

About the Role
Whitehaven Coal is seeking a highly skilled Superintendent Rehabilitation and Closure to join our HSE team. Reporting to the General Manager Environment, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert advice, support, and governance for the development, maintenance, and implementation of rehabilitation and closure plans for our operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Process owner for developing and implementing minimum company standards for rehabilitation and closure.
- Input into the HSE 5-year plan ensuring clear integration with Whitehaven Coal's rehabilitation and closure strategy, the Whitehaven Coal HSE strategy, and the mine planning process.
- Identifies and monitors company-wide rehabilitation and closure practices and emerging trends (internal and external) and analyses these in relation to performance.
- Gives technical advice to site leadership teams and operations on strategic rehabilitation and closure issues that may impact WHC.
- Provides technical expertise for rehabilitation and closure issues and shares this expertise with operations, including upskilling of capability.
- Engages regulatory bodies, industry bodies, and non-government organizations on rehabilitation and closure issues that span multiple operations.
- Supports the development of site-specific rehabilitation and closure plans in coordination with internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, earth sciences, mining engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in land rehabilitation and closure planning, preferably in the mining industry.
- Strong knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and industry standards for NSW and QLD.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and great attention to detail.
